Canada aims to decrease the waiting period for Express Entry to 6 months

Canada has stated that it will accelerate the processing of Express Entry applications, with the majority of new applications being handled within six months.

This will take effect in early July when IRCC commences sending Express Entry invitations to Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) candidates.

Many people have had to wait over two years, due to the pandemic, for Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to process their permanent residency applications.

Prior to the pandemic, Express Entry applications were typically processed in 6 months.

Express Entry is the main method through which Canada admits skilled workers.

Permanent residency invites to FSWP applicants were halted in December 2020, and CEC applications since September 2021.

This statement comes at a time when Canada has the lowest unemployment rate on record, with over 800,000 job openings announced.

Employers require additional foreign workers to help fill labour shortages.

According to data released by the Canadian government, the country's immigration backlog surpassed 2.1 million across all lines of business in April.
